October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and was first observed in 1981 as a day of unity. According to the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, this month of recognition was brought on to connect battered women's advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children.
In Ohio, there were 109 domestic violence fatalities from July 2019 to June 2020. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the US. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men will experience severe intimate partner physical violence in their lifetime.
